NYC Disciple Takeover Sets the Bar High for The Kingdom Tour

Disciple Records’ “The Kingdom Tour” had a proper kickoff in New York this past Saturday, making their first stop at NYC Arena (formerly Amazura). The massive event space is conveniently located in Queens by Jamaica Station, easily accessible by all modes of transportation. This was especially fortunate for me, as I was able to hop off a plane at JFK and book it over to the venue straight from work—I happen to be a flight attendant.

Arriving during Bandlez and LUMBERJVCK’s B2B set, I walked into a room high in energy and full of people getting down and dirty on the dance floor. Modestep took the stage next, bringing live drums and energetic bass to the “Kingdom” stage. The party continued with Barely Alive, Virtual Riot, Terravita, and Dodge & Fuski, all slicing up the room with their heavy-hitting tracks.

Offering a change of pace and a breather from Disciple’s distinctively heavier sounds, the H<3art Beats team hosted the “Dragon’s Lair,” a side stage upstairs. Local DJs generated upbeat vibes in a cozy atmosphere, spinning house music and keeping the party going. Among the lineup was Entity, the winner of a competition where up-and-coming artists entered submissions to be considered for a headlining slot on the H<3art Beats curated stage. Also gracing the stage were other underground talents including The Birds and the Bees, Charmae, Cryostatik, Forcina, Gnawbox, Patrick James, and Shlyn.

Though I was unable to catch every set, I had a great time bouncing back and forth between the main stage and upstairs side room. A few of my personal highlights of the night were Forcina, who skillfully blended house and bass for an amazing solo debut, Patrick James, whose upbeat energy and bouncy tunes kept me dancing the entire duration of his set, and of course, Modestep, whose unique live performance was one I had not previously seen.

Overall, the Disciple takeover was a successful night with great music and vibes to match. It was awesome to witness the final product of a kickass team of independent promoters (AZ Presents, GBH Events, Basshead Squad, and H<3art Beats NYC) joining forces to throw an amazing event.
